“Is this a yes or a no card?” is one of the most-asked tarot questions — and one of the easiest toanswer, because each of the 78 cards carries a traditional verdict alongside its fuller meaning. Here isthe method, the reasoning, and every card’s yes/no call.
The method
- Hold a genuine either/or question. (“Should I send the email?” yes. “What about my career?” — not ayes/no question.)
- Shuffle, draw one card.
- Read the card’s verdict — then, more importantly, read why. The reasoning is the actualmessage; the yes/no is just its headline.

The verdicts, in short

Reading the reason, not just the verdict
The Sun says yes — because clarity and success are already in motion. The Tower says no — because thefoundation you’d be building on is unstable, and the “no” is protection. A maybe from Two of Swordsmeans the honest answer is: you haven’t decided yet. Used this way, one card carries as muchinformation as a ten-card spread — it just arrives faster.
Yes/no etiquette
- One draw per question per day. Repeating until you hear “yes” is the classic self-deception.
- Reversals: if you read reversed cards, a strong yes card reversed often downgrades to “yes,with delays” rather than a hard no. Decide your convention and keep it.
- Stack questions honestly. If you already know the answer, the cards will only echo it — that’sfine; confirmation is also information.
